The Power Teaching and Learning Toolkit

Within lessons, children work in teams to complete the tasks that have been set. This way of co-operative working ensures that they themselves are responsible for learning the material taught and are helping their teammates learn. Teaching in this manner engages learners, encourages interdependence, develops language skills and motivates achievement. It also ensures that children retain the new learning that they have been taught as it has been proven that we will remember 95% of what we teach to someone else.

Team efforts are recognised and rewarded with points to encourage the following desirable learning behaviours:

At the end of the week, the winning team will receive a reward in recognition of the progress that they have made since the previous week.

All children are taught using our co-operative learning cycle which involves: modeling, guided practice, partner practice and independent application.

Children are set in English and Maths in accordance with their ability. This ensures that teaching meets the needs of the children precisely and aids accelerated progress. It ensures that each child has an equal opportunity for success and empowers the children to become responsible for their own learning. Models and images are used to enhance the learning opportunities for all and the children will become skilled in using success criteria to identify their own strengths and areas for development. Children can expect a daily diet of reading, writing, and maths with opportunities to apply these skills throughout topic sessions.
