Wider Curriculum

Many of the core and foundation subjects at Welbourne Primary Academy are taught as stand-alone lessons following their own curriculum design.  However, History, Geography, Art and Design and Design Technology are taught through a thematic approach in all year groups using the Cornerstones Maestro Curriculum.

We believe that this approach will give pupils the opportunity to understand the purpose and value of their learning and see its relevance to their past, present and future.  Each planned theme is designed to develop in pupils a rich and deep subject knowledge and a range of skills through a variety of interesting contexts.  In addition, teachers are able to ensure pupils see the clear links between the different aspects of their learning.

The school enriches themed learning by offering pupils the chance to regularly learn outdoors in our school grounds, the local environment and on organised excursions to further afield.  Staff also arrange exciting enrichment days within school where we can extend children’s opportunities for learning.  We encourage parents and carers to get involved with their child’s learning by supporting them in the creating of home learning projects related to their current theme.

To find out what your child's current topic is click on 'Classes'. There you will find a curriculum map which will explain all learning linked to the current topic. If you have any further questions please contact your child's class teacher.

If you would like to find out more information about our wider curriculum please contact Miss Lawson via the school office or email - office@wel.education
