Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) at Welbourne Primary Academy is Mrs Rudd, and Mrs Hempsall is our assistant SENCo. If you need to contact them,  please leave a message at the school office, or email office@wel.education.

At Welbourne Primary Academy, we are committed to inclusive practice and removing the barriers to learning that children with SEND can experience. High quality teaching that is differentiated and personalised will meet the individual needs of the majority of children, but we recognise that children with SEND may need educational provision that is additional to or different from this, which is what we strive to provide.

Our aim is to know precisely where children and young people with SEN are in their learning and development so that we can:

â€¢ Have high ambitions and set appropriate targets for pupils

•  Track pupils' progress towards these goals

• Keep the additional or different provision that is made for pupils under review

• Promote positive outcomes in the wider areas of personal and social development

• Ensure that the approaches used are based on the best possible evidence, and are having the required impact on progress

• Ensure decisions are informed by the insights of parents and the children themselves

Special Educational Needs Policy and Information Report

The Local Authority is committed to all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, making the best progress possible in their educational setting, which, wherever possible and with the agreement of the family, will be a mainstream setting.

All Peterborough schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.  Schools have access to a range of professional services provided by the local authority which includes the Educational Psychology service, Autism Specialist Teacher Service, Sensory Support Service, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy Services.

Please click the link at the bottom of the page to read our SEN Policy and Information report in full.

Below you will find some general information about the different approaches, interventions and professionals who may be involved when children present with special educational needs.
